Dear Expectant Parents,
Thank you for taking the time to look at our profile. We appreciate that you are considering placing your child for adoption, and we recognize the love you have for your baby and your desire to do what is best for him or her. We sincerely hope that you have the love and support you need at this time.
Our lives have been incredibly blessed by adoption. The joy and happiness that our adoptions have brought into our home and into our family is indescribable, and we love our kids so much. They are really good-natured, happy children who would make awesome big brothers and big sister. Having adopted before, we have a better appreciation for the importance of having a good relationship with birth parents, and we would look forward to having a solid relationship with you. We have an open adoption with all of our children’s birthparents and we are grateful for our relationships with them.
Our family has witnessed other blessings that come from adoption first-hand. Recently we learned that Amy’s mom placed a son for adoption when she was 18 years old. Talking with her about her experience and the emotions she felt at the time has deepened our appreciation for birth parents. When she placed her son, the adoption process was very closed and she had no idea who was going to receive him. Likewise, the adoptive parents didn’t know anything about the birth mother or father. A few years ago, Amy’s mother was finally reunited with her son and they have really enjoyed getting to know each other. Watching this process unfold has made us excited about having a more open relationship with you as birth parents. We understand the importance of your child always knowing where they came from, including learning about you and the love you have for them.
Prior to us meeting at Idaho State University, Mike served a church mission in the Dominican Republic and Amy went to culinary school and worked as a tour guide in Alaska. We dated for three years, and during that time we each spent time studying abroad in Spain. The summer before our senior year of college we got married and moved to Guadalajara, Mexico where we both worked for the summer. After we graduated from ISU, we took a vacation to Peru to see Machu Picchu. We moved to Michigan for Mike to attend school and while we were there we visited Chicago, Niagara Falls, and Sandusky, Ohio (home of the world’s most awesome amusement park — Cedar Point). Later we lived in Colorado for a year where we enjoyed camping, hiking, and skiing and snowboarding in the amazing Colorado Rockies. We then moved to Oregon, where we had had fun living right on the coast, sightseeing in Portland and in central Oregon, and we took fun trips to California, Las Vegas, and Florida. We recently spent time in Cuba, which was a fascinating experience. We continue to enjoy traveling, especially to Spanish-speaking countries and are always saving up for our next big adventure. We currently live near Boise, Idaho, which is so much fun. One of our favorite things about living here is that we are living near our extended families. Our kids get so excited when they know we’re going to see grandparents or cousins.
Education is also very important to us. Mike got his master’s degree at the University of Michigan in healthcare administration, and Amy got her master’s degree in human resources and adult education at the University of Idaho. Mike is currently the CEO of the local hospital and Amy enjoys staying home full-time to care for our children. Learning all types of things is important to both of us. For example Mike is currently teaching himself to play the guitar and Amy is learning how to refinish furniture.
We enjoy many aspects of living in the Northwest. During the winter, we spend our time playing in the snow as much as possible, skiing, snowboarding, and sledding. During the summer, we enjoy going hiking, camping, and spending time at the beach. We recently got a small tent trailer, which we have enjoyed taking up to the mountains to camp. Our kids love to play in lakes and streams, hike, ride their bikes on the trails, and make s’mores over the campfire. Michigan football is a must for us during the fall, and we've had fun teaching our kids to cheer for our team. Mike loves music and is always trying to get Amy to like whatever new indie-alternative band he has recently discovered. Amy’s passion is food, whether it’s trying out new restaurants or staying home and experimenting with new recipes. We especially love Mexican and Indian food, and Mike considers himself to be a salsa connoisseur.
We’re both the oldest child in our families and we have always been excited to have a family of our own. Amy has two brothers and two sisters, and Mike has two brothers. Everyone has been very supportive of our previous adoptions and they're always excited to welcome someone new into the family.
Everyone in our extended family loves our children very much and always wants to spend time with them. Our oldest son is a very friendly kid and he loves being around people. He enjoys playing with us and with his younger brother and sister. He also loves doing art of all kinds and is enjoying all-day kindergarten where he is learning to read and write. A special treat for him is when he gets to play on the xBox, and he’s looking forward to learning to ski this winter.
Our middle son loves playing with his older brother and he really likes cars and monster trucks, and was in heaven when he recently went to his first monster truck rally. He also loves to take things apart and see how they work. He enjoys when he is able to help with anything, such as putting something away for us, and he is obsessed with our cats. He is also really looking forward to learning to ski this winter.
Our youngest daughter is very outgoing and very busy. She likes to play with her older brothers and especially loves running errands after she and Mom drop the boys off at school. She wants to wear her pajamas everywhere, and would spend the entire day outside if she could. When she is being suspiciously quiet, she has usually emptied out a drawer or two somewhere. All of our kids really like spending time outdoors so we like to take them on bike rides and to the park.
All three of our children are very friendly and loving and we have no doubt they would be amazing older siblings.
We’re so grateful for the opportunity we have had to be parents to our incredible children, and look forward to the possibility of being able to adopt another child someday. We truly love and appreciate our children's birthparents, and all parents who make the difficult decision to place a child for adoption. We wish you all the best during this time and we look forward to possibly hearing from you.
Take Care,
Mike, Amy, and the kids
